How Shellac Helps my Nails

IMG_0468

My nails are so weak that they never grow long enough to be pretty. Unfortunately, nothing seems to help strengthen them: I’ve tried masks, strengthening serums, vitamins, diets, everything. The one beautiful thing that does seem to work a bit better though, is shellac. It helps keep my nails together, doesn’t chip and stays on for weeks!

Shellac is a special polish that creates a thick kind of layer on your nails. Watch out, though, it doesn’t come off easily and requires a little acetone bath for removal. Because it lasts for up to 2 weeks, I usually pick a more neutral color – like a pink or beige shade that will not be too noticeable or annoying after a few days. This time I went for a darker look to cover up all the gross imperfections of my nails, but I love it just as much.

A lot of people ask if you can do your own shellac manicure at home, and the answer is, Yes. Amazon sells great UV Light machines, like the Royal Nails Professional UV Light, but make sure to read all the precautions before buying so you know what you’re getting into. I recommend taking a look at Beautyzine’s post 7 Best At-Home Nail Polish Kits  as well as About.Style’s Shellac Nails FAQ’s.

What’s your preferred manicure and favorite nail polish? Do you do your nails yourself or go to a salon? Do you know anyone who owns a UV Light machine at home? Tell me in the comments!

I love gel manicures. Are those the same as Shellac manicures? They last forever, but I always go and get them done, I don’t have the patience to do my own. haha. Love this blog! Thanks for both this blog, and Study-hack! <3

    • Karen, my most dedicated reader! I think gel and shellac are very similar. I’ve seen more gel polishes in stores, though, like the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel that is easier to apply at home and doesn’t need any light. It’s always so nice to go to a salon and get a manicure professionally, though :)

  2. I love shellac nails – especially french tip or red! Yours look great :)

Also, I answered your question on my blog. Hope it helps!
